    This is Yogastine, a local orphan girl preparing for a school picture day. For some kids in the villages, their families simply do not have enough to provide for them. Yogastine and her sister were recently sent by their family to a nearby boarding home run by a local charity so they could be taken care of. The girls now live just below the mountains, about an hour away from the villages, with 20 other kids where they receive food, clothes, schooling and more. by: shawnpittman Views[309] Two of the village's older residents kneel to pray before a meal one afternoon. Though beliefs vary from village to village, faith is an important part of villagers' daily lives. With problems such as little access to basic medical care and frequent water shortages, the villagers often rely on prayer and their faith to help them work through these difficult situations. by: shawnpittman Views[265] Students line up and eagerly wait for the day's special lunch. In this and many other nearby villages, residents are lucky to receive one meal of rice a day, and thus malnutrition becomes a major issue, especially to kids. by: shawnpittman Views[247] Several girls at the village's only school laugh and clap as a guest speaker tells them stories and sings with them. The girls pictured range from elementary school to high school ages as all of the village's students are taught together in a single-room building by one teacher. Each age group sits on the floor in a different corner of the school room for their studies. by: shawnpittman Views[329] Villagers in this unnamed village in the Dhimbam Hills mountain range of Tamil-Nadu congregate to warily welcome some visitors to their home. Hundreds of tiny tribal villages like this one lie deep in the mountains, most of them so remote that the residents rarely see outsiders, and many have never met a person of another ethnicity in their life. by: shawnpittman Views[716]
