This city wakes up quietly. I watched the day begin sitting alone on the steps of Sacré-Cœur. Later in the day, tourists will fill up these steps and voices in many languages will echo down Montmartre. But at six in the morning, as the sun begins to reveal the city, only one other person walks the street and the big city is reduced to morning birdsong and footsteps on cobblestone.
