    Standing in front of Notre Dame, I found this man feeding birds with crumbled bread crumbs. And although there are likely many other people doing this same thing throughout the city, his stillness of hand and steady gaze spoke volumes to me about the things we love about our cities. This man loves the city's life, these birds love the offered nourishment, and I love the beauty of this small moment in a big city. by: santiago_nocera Views[277] This city wakes up quietly. I watched the day begin sitting alone on the steps of Sacré-Cœur. Later in the day, tourists will fill up these steps and voices in many languages will echo down Montmartre. But at six in the morning, as the sun begins to reveal the city, only one other person walks the street and the big city is reduced to morning birdsong and footsteps on cobblestone. by: santiago_nocera Views[268] The pigeons of Paris are as common as the Eiffel Tower postcards, but to this young traveler they are a novelty. I watched this boy stand still in the flock of birds, almost blending into them, until he ran away, either unable to resist or tempted by the hand of his parent. This small moment of music-less dance lessons contrasts with the grandeur of the city, and reaffirms the romance of Paris. by: santiago_nocera Views[251] At the Montmartre art market, dozens of artists sell their creations to a packed square of tourists looking for the perfect souvenir. While each artist's booth seems to boast another Eiffel Tower recreation, look closely and you'll find beautiful, original work.
