We then toured a gov't run workshop to demonstrate how silk, hand tied rugs are made. It takes roughly 4 months to make one. Starting from the raw silk, of course.

At the end of a long, hot day we went below ground into an ancient underground city. There are many of these hiding out cities. This one is over 4km, 8 floors down, could hole 3000 people with their food and animals for a year. They have been used for over 3000 years to hide from invaders. After all this is the Silk Road!
