My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I snapped this pic of a nomad having a break and a daydream on his motorbike while we waited for the car to cool down. I often imagine what scene is playing out in the gers way off in the distance.

This was a one of the highlights of my trip - seeing the young boys racing in the final to the local Naadam festival in Ikh-Uul.
I love the look of terror on the boy in front whose horse is slowing down, and the look of confidence on the boy in yellow who eventually won the race. Though only 8 years old, these boys rode from over the horizon without saddles, shoes or any apparent sign of fear.

This experience was a complete stroke of luck. With scant details of what she was taking me to see, my Mongolian pen pal, Oyunaa, took me and my two mates to a training camp a few hours outside of the capital Ulaan Bataar.
This image captured the coaches last pep talk to the best wrestlers from the strongest province before the national Naadam festival which was only a few days away. They were all happy, excited and silent.

We later huddled around a small black and white TV, drank warm Korean beer and cheered them on from the middle of nowhere (Ikh-Uul).
