Out at Sea

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos

As a Malaysian, I grew up traveling between my hometown and KL taking in boring green scenery of rainforest along the 2 sides of our national highway. Sometime ago while I woke up from a nap during the journey between Ipoh and KL, I found out that the messy rainforest was all but gone! What left were unending palm oil plantations as far as my eyes can see. Instantly I was devastated and realised what I have taken for granted is actually so fragile, which is exactly why I work for The Wilderness Society, the largest NGO in Australia for environment protection. Everyday I talk to different people at the street to raise awareness and empower them to stop coal mining project in the Kimberley. It is a rewarding experience knowing that even though I'm still a uni student from overseas, I'm instilling something important in the Australian public. I also volunteer for Fremantle Sea Rescue because I love being out at the sea. Thanks to dad, I love photography and can’t stop experimenting my DSLR since 2 years ago. I wish that thru my photography of the fragile beauty of nature, I can convince people to think twice before they impact the environment and the planet we all reside.
