europe 2013 A where we can, when we can, account of our self drive trip around Ireland-Britain-France

So many photo opportunities but so few places to stop and take them!  We drove north and took in part of the Lar Connaght penninsula, and then south through The Burren area.  Narrow windy roads bordered by rock walls and overgrown hedges.  A mixture of the Desert Rd, scruffy Foxton dunes and then some of the tidiest prettiest towns you'll see.  Vegetation is allowed to run riot right up to the edge of the road unless of course it encroaches onto what little road there is.  I can imagine some of these places would be bleak in winter especially with much of the vegetation being deciduous.  Yesterday we drove through a huge area of peat lands.  Great mounds of the stuff in piles by the road.  Today we saw squares of it in the back of trucks and bricks of it being sold for the home fires.  Tonight we're in a B&B in Ennnis.  The finals of the hurling competition are on.  Not too sure what that involves but the flags are out everywhere.  Sticking out of the sides of cars and strung across the streets.

PS  I nearly lost Janice in Lisdoonvarna they were advertising 5 weeks of continuous dancing, love and romance at the matchmaking festival.  However the average age of those seen wandering the streets looked about 80 so she decided to carry on with me, besides I need a navigator, and a plumber!, cos she fixed the flush handle on the toilet when it fell off this morning:-)
