Hi all,
First of all we'd like to announce our new email-address (but don't want to spell it out on the public internet). It's the same as our old address, but with the year 2011 inserted before the '@hotmail.com'. Hope this is all clear; we'll be back on line around Nov.20th when making a 7-day tour starting next Wednesday or Thursday.
In the past few days the following highlights have occurred:
- the airport in Lukla was closed for 6 days, so hardly any new tourists coming in
- there were some problems with arranging evacuation helicopters for some people; in one case a Spanish guy of about 90 kg was carried down on the back of a very strong porter.
- our cook Kancha is still surprising us with lovely dishes and fresh-baked bread - sometimes it feels really lazy not to do any cooking or dishwashing for 3 months!
- we still got enough books to read in the quiet hours, and even had a movienight watching the DVD 'Himalaya'. Nice movie, and showed quiet a few recognisable scenes from the highlands, where electricity, wheels and traffic lights are very rare.
- Hans is improving his presentation skills for the altitude talk - three days in a row this week while Mika was treating patients. Many coughs here, due to the cold and dry air and the often smoky lodges and porter accommodation. The smoke of wood combined with yak dung is a bit sharp on the throat.
Still seeing interesting new people every day- that's one of the advantages if you stay on the same spot! All the best with your Carnaval / Sinterklaas (NL) or Christmas (NZ) preparations!
