In making this video, I wanted to capture the feeling of leaving yourself open to new ideas and what it means to be a world nomad. The people I have met in my travels have greatly inspired not only this video, but my every day life, as well. Also, my travel companion Casey is always an inspiration to me.
So far, my filmmaking experience has been limited. This summer, I took a documentary film class and have worked freelance a few times doing wedding videography, but nothing substantial.
Since I started shooting videos, I have felt really connected with the moments I have captured. There is something about being behind the lens and, in some ways, creating your own version of reality. However, more important than the aesthetics of the shots themselves, is attempting to create emotion through the narrative of the shots. I find this aspect of filmmaking challenging but incredibly rewarding.
This scholarship would give me the opportunity to discover if filmmaking is something I could pursue professionally. Being under the mentorship of an established professional would benefit both myself and my films and would give me a better understanding of what it means to be a filmmaker.
