That's the moral for the day after visiting first the Han Emperor's tomb and now Qinshi Emperor's tomb (or rather the location where thousands of replica people and animals have been bured to keep the emperor company). Impressive no doubt, but surely lacking in self-confidence? Qinshi emperor unified China and created the first unified set of chinese characters. Surely he has done enough to ensure that people remember him without (pun intended) burying his country in misery and debt to create the "Tomb to rival all tombs".
Off to an early start tomorrow to 宝鸡 and 扶风 (more dead royals) which are at the edge between Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. Will be going to bed in Gansu tomorrow night.
