Desert Life, Hard Life

My Scholarship entry - The Gobi Desert, Best Served Cold

Mongolia | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | 5 photos

Too many years in a job that I loathed made me question my ideals. A resignation letter later, we sold our home and my girlfriend and I travelled the world for fifteen months. Upon my return and with a head full of fresh inspiration (and an empty bank account), I enrolled on a two year course in photography. I had found my calling: travel and wildlife photography.

But it’s not as easy as that! Although I have the practical knowledge I have little experience about the professional aspect of photography, having this opportunity would help me beyond words can describe!

I love to travel, I always have. I also love to watch wildlife, of all kinds and in all conditions. My ultimate goal would be to earn enough money with photography to allow me to travel and to document those fast disappearing places, to bring situations and subjects into peoples homes around the world.

Through my photography I aim to inspire and to change peoples attitudes about our planet and its fragility, to get them to try a little harder to be a little less consumer and a little more environmentalist. Photography is the ultimate medium in the digital age to make a difference, I want to be a part of that.

About photogravy

The Mongolian Yak is perfectly designed to survive the severe conditions that the Gobi can produce. It's thick coat offers almost floor length protection and it's large hooves are ideal for scraping away snow. It survives on a diet of only short grasses, and is best suited to altitudes of 2000m and above.
