The first day is about 16 km and will brought us to Lake Vera Hut. This day took 9 hours due to the thick mud that occupies the "sodden loddons". Parts of this section are raised but most of it is like this image. The hiker in the middle is Monica and her boyfriend was the leader of our hike. This was her first hike and as i am sure you can imagine she was not impressed. This image was taken after about 5 hours of hiking. They had to go away and have a little bit of couples therapy when we arrived at the hut.
By contrast the individual on the right is my dad. I always laugh when i see this photo. He has the biggest smile on his face! Whilst it physically and mental was one of the hardest things I have ever done, it has brought my father and I really close and was worth every bit of the pain.
