meandering thru panama city

I do not believe i have mentioned the lovely gift Bocas decided to take away from me. My voice. I have been sounding like Kathleen Turner? I think that's the actress with the deep raspy voice, for the past week. I believe today I am a mite better but still deep voice. I do not laugh but cackle. Anyways a little update on the happenin's in Luna's Castle (the hostel where I am staying in Panama city and sister to Mondo and Heike in Bocas Del Toro)We are also located quite near the president's house, we took a little walk and within 5 mins was approached by a guard who asked to search our bags and then calling and tell other guards that 5 other people were coming thru (very cool). Last night we hung out with these Aussies and a German who had been travelling together for some time. Well...what a night it was. I do not believe I have ever been scared for my life or the people around me. These guys were totally cool and joking around and drinking until suddenly one of the aussies mentioned how 1 in 3 aussies have a gun..and suddenly one of them mentions how they have killed someone..light conversation...Yea the night went downhill from there. Luckily some people left. I didn't. Instead I was scared about leaving too quickly cause the guy kept giving me this steady stare asking me if 'i was okay with him' and if ' everything is cool'. It was just crazy and messed up that this story must be told in person. I do not believe I will forget. It was the first time I acutally felt threatened. especially the part in 'what would you do if i slit one of these people's throats? what would you do?' Yes...LOVELY! Anyways the next day we were suppose to venutre off to the canal in the morning and Panama Viejo in the afternoon. However of course that didn't happen. Instead we headed to the canal. Yes there were huge ships (got tons of photos) but the whole thing wasn't as fun as the museum! By the time we left the area it was mid afternoon to late for the Ruin's in Panama Viejo. Both Katie and Rachel the two Canadian girls i was travelling with (and met on the way to Bocas) are leaving today at 3 am for a 5 am flight to Quito. They will be sadly missed. This is the way of the traveller. I would love to fly down south however I think back to CR on thursday is best. I'm hopefully going to be staying in a Indigenous Reserve. I will hopefully be doing a homestay with a Boruca family for 2 nights. I want to learn about their culture and language. I have seen a lot of the Kunas here in Panama city then I have seen of any indigenous peoples in centural america in their areas. I must stay if I was wearing the traditional clothing I would too look like one of them. They are short with dark skin but almond eyes giving them an asian look about themselves. I thought about volunteering with them in a couple of years perhaps. ohh some stuff is going on out here with the cops i'm going to check it out..
