angelina told us that we should really drive over to porto cristo and then down to colonia sant jordi - this meant driving to the eastern corner of the island then down southwest and then we went thru the almost exact center of mallorca to the motorway at inca (no pyramids visible) back to pollensa
it was a great day driving sometimes thru very very narrow streets with sidewalks about 10" (25 cm) wide, and then thru the country filled with potato crops and apple trees and windmills - all under beautiful sunny blue skies
we had an extremely delicious lunch at a restaurant called sa llotja (seems to mean 'exchange' as in stock exchange in catalan) in porto colom, right on the small harbor - the chef is a magician and everyone should go there immediately and eat a lot of food (we certainly did our best - besides the standard bread and olives to start, i had chipirones (tiny squid) and miranda had something delicious that i can't remember right now - then we went really crazy and ordered dessert that was billed as ice cream and sherbet and fresh fruit and whipped cream. they came in huge sundae dishes and were just fabulous - mango and raspberry sherbet, vanilla ice cream, diced bananas oranges kiwi strawberries mixed in with whipped cream - OMG because it's not tourist season yet (thank god - there was virtually no traffic on any of the roads, making the drive a real pleasure - in summertime they must be clogged with rv's etc and it would be a bit of a nightmare being stuck waiting for a passing opportunity) and also because this year it seems there are even fewer people travelling than usual, there were only 3 parties in the place the whole time we were there at lunchtime - so everyone reading this who will be in mallorca must go there and also spread the word!
still no possibility yet to post pix but i will - went with miranda to the market to get oranges etc and took some great shots of the bakery where we got ensaimadas and fruit tarts plus the market ladies selling gorgeous strawberries and oranges - and miranda's son robin had asked christopher to buy flowers for her since it's mother's day in the UK (happy mum's day to all you british mums!) and so she got 3 pots of stock and a bouquet of freesias - we resisted the temptation to have a coffee and maybe another pastry in one of the cafes on the market square and we went back to their wonderful house for a rest before taking advantage of the lluc/soller road finally being open - so that's what we'll be doing this afternoon
maybe 1 more entry from beautiful mallorca before heading to england on tues
