This homeless man wanders alone in the streets of the Old City of Ahmedabad amongst the buzz of the Kite Flying festival. Draped in the highest quality handmade textiles produced by India’s ancient artisanal techniques before the layered architectural backdrop provokes nostalgia.

The laneways of the Old City in Ahmedabad hold many stories of both ancient and contemporary life. A 200 year old dwelling built up against a 400 year old building joined to 600 year old architecture provides a visual feast of texture and colour. In contrast this family is amidst contemporary daily life oblivious to their everyday surroundings captivating my heart and how I will remember it forever and share it with the world through my lens.

The contemporary life of this family in the Old City of Ahmedabad retains honour and privacy in often difficult conditions behind traditional customised architecture. This blue is connotative of Lord Krishna portraying subtle symbolism of religion and spirituality characteristic of the oldest surviving civilisation. The joy of the young girl and inquisitive nature of the women is a reflection of our attitude towards this image.
