My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Australia | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 4 photos

G’day. I’m Chris, software developer by day, budding photographer whenever I get the chance.

Photography is my artistic outlet. For me it’s more than capturing memories. Whilst important, grabbing a moment in time and sharing it with others, to experience and discuss, is my goal. I become centred with my eyes open to the moment. I have patience, a desire to improve and expand myself to new possibilities of photography. I simply require a knowledgeable, guiding hand.

Every instant is unique, a moment in time with one opportunity to be captured. Understanding this I know I would use the scholarship to absorb as much knowledge as possible, to allow each image the chance to reach its full potential. I know what I’m looking for as I hold the camera but my current knowledge sometimes doesn’t convey my vision fully.

Please show me what to do. Push my boundaries, fill my mind with techniques and knowledge so I can share images with the world, invoke a feeling, live an old memory or see the next destination.

My photos represent our new life and home on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. The tranquillity of a leaf near a stream, the little anemone so vibrant in colour in a rock pool waiting to be seen, little dangers under foot if you are not aware and the adventures of my son, a young explorer searching for each one. All can be missed if you are not looking or being shown but now captured to be shared.

Reminding people about the natural elements around them, especially the small ones, the important yet sometimes forgotten opens them to new possibilities and experiences. This is what I love about life and photography and is my contribution.

New experiences, new destinations and photos of them, is my future.
