My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Sweden | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos
I'm an 18 year old college student from Boulder, Colorado, studying geology at Carleton College. I have three years of photography experience on an award-winning yearbook staff, and I'm currently in the middle of a daily self-portrait project documenting what it means to be an 18 year old (www.facebook.com/18photoproject).
Geology might seem like an odd major choice for a girl who dreams of photography, but the opportunities to travel and work outside are actually very similar to travel photography, and combine my loves for science, exploration, and art. Each of these interests is important to an aspiring National Geographic photographer, as photography alone does not lead to adventure worth documenting. I should be chosen for this incredible opportunity because it perfectly combines my goals of becoming a geologist studying glaciers and a National Geographic photographer, and I believe I have the skill, motivation, and perseverance to make the most of this incredibly opportunity.
My portrait work has been featured on Adorama, I was awarded Best Individual Photo by Jostens 2012, and received honorable mention in Exporica's Travel Photography Contest 2011.
