My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

USA | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos

When it comes to taking photographs I've always felt more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. Growing up I had never considered photography as a hobby, let alone a career path. My first camera was an average point and shoot camera that didn't see much film.

When I was older and started travelling that was when I fell in love with photography, finding myself in a new city where even the mundane was wonderous, somehow everything still looked even more fascinating through a viewfinder. Immersing yourself in a different culture and being able to capture each and every aspect of it is so enthralling. When I take a photo my favourite moments to capture are the ones people would overlook, moments that at first glance would seem to be not worthy of being captured.

Photography has proven to be such an incredible way to share moments with other people. Everything I know about photography I have taught myself. Being mentored by Jason in a foreign country, learning from him, would be one of the greatest experiences to further my photography skills and knowledge. The mentorship and the exposure in the photojournalism industry from the scholarship would be a dream come true.
