For these people, the jungle is their life. The Dongria are animists and they worship and protect nature. Every hill is home to its own god.

The Dongria are great admirers of aesthetic romanticism. Women and girls use heavy ornamentation, including wearing silver earrings along the entire rim of the ear.

There are estimated to be fewer than 8,000 Dongria alive today.

Their way of life is still, in many ways, primitive and harsh. Many fear that modernity and development could mean an end to their ancient way of life.
