    There are estimated to be fewer than 8,000 Dongria alive today. Their way of life is still, in many ways, primitive and harsh. Many fear that modernity and development could mean an end to their ancient way of life. by: moska Views[1332] For these people, the jungle is their life. The Dongria are animists and they worship and protect nature. Every hill is home to its own god. by: moska Views[2284] The Dongria are great admirers of aesthetic romanticism. Women and girls use heavy ornamentation, including wearing silver earrings along the entire rim of the ear. by: moska Views[1138] Dongria women are not only strikingly beautiful but strong as well. They contribute inside and outside the household and are on equal footing with their male counterparts; a reason why the bride price is paid to a girl's parents when she gets married which is a unique feature of their tradition. by: moska Views[985] The Dongria have lived in the Niyamgiri hills in a remote part of eastern India's Orissa state for centuries. They live off the land and survive by gathering fruit and selling jungle plants in the towns at the foot of the hills.
