My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I consider myself a wallflower. More of an observer of life sometimes. I enjoy watching things and trying to capture the moment. It maybe someone’s expression, or the lighting off someone’s hair. I tend to notice those things, although capturing it is challenging at times! I think because I am naturally more observant, I took a liking to photography. I don’t really like editing as such, because I feel that you change what you really saw. So in that sense, I think I prefer old school film photography. But I definitely appreciate how you can snap away with digital!
I love nature. I believe there is a special bond between humans and nature, but unfortunately many have forgotten about this bond – fallen for the trappings of society. I feel more alive and connected when I’m in nature and being in Sydney makes me want to escape and runaway sometimes :)
To me, photography is about documenting a moment of time. Not really creating an image, as such, but rather recording a split second of life. I think it’s an amazing privilege we have to make photographs and share these moments of life because it’s a way for people to understand each other and appreciate life.
