Safely in Greece

GREECE | Wednesday, 16 November 2011 | Views [502]

I am in Greece for the moment. So far I have been here for a week and most likely I will stay for three or four more. Until 25/26th here in Githio on Peloponnese where I have my own apartment and food through in exchange for around three hours of work in an animal shelter every day. It's a very pleasant agreement though this village is already very very boring. I found the place through helpx.net. The same site have also given me the contacts to go 50 kms northwest after this to pick olives later. So I will be fed and accommodated for about a month with nearly no expenses - perfect!

As you all know I have hitchhiked around until now, with only minor problems with connections and people. Greece is surprisingly the so far worst place for hitchhiking I have been. The only Greek to pick me up was only half Greek. The rest have been foreigners, even an Albanian man picked me up. He didn't do anything to improve the bad Albanian image..

Big news: I have changed my name from Mette to Med. Nobody seems to be able to say Mette (even danish people struggle a bi with this name). Med means honey in Slovakian, Serbian and several other language, so it's bit of an new stripper-ish identity:) No worries I will not take up any profession in that direction. It's mostly for the convenience of not spending ten minutes explaining and spelling my name, and half an hour if they are intrigued enough to ask for my surname!

That's it for now. Loads of things have happened before I came to Greece but can't really be bothered now the sun is shining outside..
