Out in the city

CHINA | Friday, 10 October 2008 | Views [572] | Comments [1]

I've decided there is one cultural difference that I can't understand, no matter how much I try. Eating chickens feet and duck head - sure, knock your self out people...but, when it comes to public toilets WHY can't they spring for one you sit on as apposed to one embedded in the floor that you have to squat over?

Who in the world would think squatting over the floor a comfortable way to use the toilet? Especially in a city of four million people!

Tonight we went out for a stroll around the city. I really like Zhangzhou, the people are very friendly and the shops are so cheap (in Shanghai or Beijing, it's 10X more expensive!) I bought a few new release DVD's for one dollar each, pirated of course. And the other day I bought a beautiful little hand painted china tea pot for about 50 cents. It's so cheap.

Many of the cultural differences you've mentioned are traditional and probably derived from the difficulties of life in rural China.

By the way the china tea pot sounds nice!

Don't forget to write about your recent lone adventures in Zhangzhou.

Lots of love...
