The standard mattress here in China is hard as a rock. It seems the one in my little apartment is no exception. That's just the way Chinese people like to sleep. In the summer a lot of them will just sleep on straw mats on the floor. So I guess I should be thankful that I don't have to do that.
It does seem quite trival, but having a comfortable sleep is quite important when you're travelling and a rock hard mattress really isn't my idea of comfort.
I've had to pile blankets and a half inflated air mattress on top of my double bed just to make it comfortable...but now it's not so bad.
My Dad says he has become used to sleeping on the hard matress and that it's proved to be very good for his back.
My little appartment is pretty fantastic actually...and I do feel very lucky to be able to enjoy a whole appartment to myself during my stay here.
