My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited- Hope through education

For better or worse, in today’s society, most of our information comes from visual mediums. We still read and use books, but particularly for the issues that don’t affect us directly or for the ones we simply don’t feel passionate about, all we know is what we see. Therefore, it is of great importance to be able to convey a powerful and accurate story through images.
No visual form is better than the other, but travel photography, I believe, has one of the biggest responsibilities. It’s one of the only mediums capable of making us connect with stories from afar. In its hands, it has the power to bring us an alternate version of what we usually see in the news. It’s the only one that can help us destroy stereotypes and make us care about what happens in the world.
Of course I would be stoked from all the perks that come with working in this industry, but if I were to win, I’d try to take it a step further and give my art a social cause. I’d like to develop my skills to the point where I can teach and help the locals use photography in conjunction with a wide range of media, to tell the story of their culture, history and future.
