My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

As the sun begins to set we found ourselves passing through a small chicken farm. After speaking to a few of the residents we found out that the sole purpose for this community was to run the chicken farm. Self-sufficient and with the nearest shop being over an hour drive away they are seemingly detached from the world.

On the second day we ventured down into the valley and stumbled upon a small rural village. It was a Sunday afternoon and the local community had gathered out in the sunshine to watch their weekly football match and support their local team. Instead of perfectly cut green grass with a backdrop of branded concrete this game is played on a dry field, no lines and plenty of smiles. Happiness within simplicity.

After a long day’s ride we returned to our camp in the valley to rest our legs and share some stories under the cloudless African night sky above.
