Monday 13th Feb
Out for 9 a.m. (Early start!)
We go up the north coast, passing some beautiful beaches, right up into the hills and rainforest. The roads are very dodgy in places, narrow with potholes, oh, and the odd landslip for good measure!
Jean has a little suzuki jeep, very bouncy, especially in the back!
We make our way across country, to the S.E. of the island, as the road to the north to Charlotteville is too bad, (too many landslips). Once at Roxborough we travel north again to Speyside and go to 'Jemma's Kitchen' which is Tree House restaurant! You couldn't get any closer to the sea. (I promise photo's will appear soon!) We had a salad starter, whether you wanted it or not, with a sweet, ginger dressing on it. I had fish curry, Matt had grilled fish and Jean had fried shrimp, (or massive prawns!) It came with 4 side dishes, lentils (or peas as they call them here), veggie rice, veg and a very tasty cheesy, potato bake. Delicous!
The island is only 7 miles wide by 27 long (I think), so it doesn't take to long to get around, especially with Jean, as she has probably done it a million times before. We did have a near miss on the way back though, Jean just kept going!
We then headed back home, to continue with Plan B! (Passage to Venezuela!)
Now making plans to catch ferry there, but Matt's spanish isn't good enough for phone conversation, (and mine is none existant). Will work on it tomorrow!
Tuesday 14th Day 6
Two very cool Rasta's spotted today! One with a beard down to his shins, me know lie man!and the other with his dreads so long, he had them tied into a turban effect, (thought of Tony J.)
Went out on a 2 hour boat trip today. Snorkelled over the reef, my first snorkelling experience, not brilliant as snorkel and mask were crap! But still saw plenty of colourful fish and the reef. Well worth the 12 pound! We then went to Nylon Pool (apparently named by Princess Margaret in 1973!). It is amazing because you are in the middle of the Carribean Sea and you can stand in a beautiful clear pool, where the water is only 3 foot deep. A little further out is a sand bank, about 60 ft by 30 ft which appeared in 1963 for no good reason, but they now have the 'odd' wedding there! Don't worry, even though it's Valentines Day we weren't tempted!
Back to dry land in time for lunch from a beach hut. Fish and goat today, for a change!
Came back to work on plan B. Walked back to airport to try to get earlier flight to Trinidad, but nothing available, so stopped at bar on way home. Two rum punch for Netty, omg - strong or what!
Have now decided to stop worrying about flights, what will be, will be.
