Luckily, since I slept the entire LA to Nadi flight, I was able to avoid jet lag. I'm exhausted, but I think that has more to do with the stress and running around for the months leading up to my departure.
Yesterday I went into town. From everything I had read and been warned about, I expected people to descend on me like a swarm of bees trying to sell me their wares. I wasn't approached by anyone, and it was a pretty uneventful walk around. There's an awesome vegetable market close to the bus station; rows and rows of fruit sellers in one area, kava sellers in another area, then people with tarps on the ground with their produce spread out. It's the first time I haven't felt guilty for buying and eating bananas and coconut, which were both amazing.
Later in the day I took a catamaran out to one of the islands. There were a bunch of activities, but I realized that one of the best things about coming across the world to go to a tropical island paradise is being about to sit around and do nothing but stare at the scenery while basking in the sun. I did get a sunburn though, on my back where I couldn't reach and thought I had applied sunblock to my neck but... it's not as bad as it could have been, and I've definitely had worse.
But the best thing about yesterday is that I finally got to sleep in a bed. For the weeks leading up to my trip, my bed was in storage and I was curled up on my couch, then curled up on the plane. But last night... a mattress, a pillow and it was wonderful.
I've uploaded photos to photo gallery.
