    My day was coming to an end and I was making my way back to the team house when I spotted a group of men rebuilding a structure on top of a hill. I was ecstatic to see this, for to me it symbolised the rebirth of Haiti after the Earthquake. To me it represented the resilience, pride and determination the Haitians have. Even though most have lost everything including loved ones, they still wear a smile on their face and remain hopeful that things will get better. They make something out of nothing and life goes on somehow. by: louisecunningham Views[190] As I stood on that hill, I took in and captured with my camera the sheer scale of the tents erected on the steep hill face. Everywhere I looked were sprawling masses of crude tarpaulin homes as far as the eye could see. Crude makeshift shelters that for now they call home. Tens of thousands of now homeless individuals in these tented communities have united in order to survive, vulnerable to the elements. by: louisecunningham Views[231] In Haiti voodoo is widely practiced. Noticing I was carrying a camera, this lady came over and informed me that there is a strong voodoo belief-especially among older Haitians-that when someone takes your photo it steals your soul. I felt extremely privledged and it took me by surprise, when she offered to have her portrait taken. by: louisecunningham Views[316] Amidst the chaos of a Tent City after the earthquake, a young girl gets on with her school work while her younger sister watches on. The Haitian peoples resilience and desire to gain a better life, never failed to amaze me. by: louisecunningham Views[247] While out on the ground one day, I noticed this child laid lifeless on a cold concrete porch. His Father sat drinking a few metres away, going insane because of our presence. Unable to approach the child I hoped he was okay. I snapped this shot with my camera down by my side, in order not to provoke the childs drunk Father. by: louisecunningham Views[225]
