In northern Swedish Lapland in the winter it is dark almost the whole time except for a glimpse of dusky light with some areas experiencing snowfall for eight months of the year with temperatures dropping down to -40 degrees Celsius.

Tourism has encouraged the fascination of the Sami people with many tours including husky/dog sledding. Many of the tours will take you out into the snowy wilderness where you cannot see anything but snow and trees.

The Sami people are the indigenous people from Lapland. In Sweden only the Sami people can own Reindeer, which they use for food, clothing, trade and labour. They are really resourceful and in the past even used the Reindeer’s intestines as a form of thread to sew with.
