Hola gente!
I am now in Ecuador … First headed north to Huanchaco and Mancora (in Peru) and then Puerto Lopez and Montanita (in Ecuador). How good to be on the beach again and first time in the Pacific for me!
As it is still off season here we had, Julian and I, the whole hostel (Sol y Luna) in Huanchaco for ourselves … was amazing the owner just left us the keys so it was like having our own restaurant/hostel. After a couple of days Chloe (French) and Stephanie (Belgium) arrived, we hanged out and they went on travelling with us all the way up to Puerto Lopez. As we are going up the continent, climate is getting warmer and the people more friendly … In Huanchaco we made friends with the locals’ very quickly and some of the kids were meeting us every day on the beach. We started to eat tons of seafood … and even managed to through a bit of culture into the mix with the ruins of Chan Chan (quite interesting to check out on some of the other cultures apart from the Incas, this ruins were very different from Matchu Pitchu).
A couple of Americans and an Argentinean joined the group and all was going very well till we got … robbed in Mancora … Personnaly I have lost the camcorder, MP3 player, leather jacket … As if it wasn’t bad enough the police was a disaster … and it took me ages to get my police report … I still have hope to get something back through the insurance… So I founded very difficult to enjoy that place (Mancora) … ha! and the hostel was infested with crickets!!! Oh well that was of this places with a pretty bad vibe. Meeting some great travelers and the food made up a bit for it…
Talking about food, both in Peru and Ecuador one of the special is Ceviche – fresh raw fish cooked in lemon juice and onions … Delicious!
Then we crossed to Ecuador and even if we were not in the Caribbean yet, felt a completely different flavor from Peru. We staid a whole group camping on the beach, taking naps in hammocks, went fishing and lived like a little community for few days … real sweet! The locals were even friendlier there and people living near the beach invited us to eat, offered us fishes and landed us the use of their kitchen … After that very “chill out” stay we all felt like a bit of a party and went to surf mad montanita… See photos in the truck and in the electronic party …
I am still here but planning to get going tomorrow towards the Ecuadorian Amazon (called here El Oriente), then follow up to Quito (the capital).

Je suis maintenant en Equateur … D’abord ce furent Huanchaco et Mancora (au Perou) puis Puerto Lopez et Montanita (en Equateur). C’est trop bon d’etre de nouveau sur la plage et pour moi c’est la premiere fois dans le Pacifique!
Comme c´est encore la saison basse, Julian et moi étions les seuls a l´hotel (Sol y Luna) a Huanchaco… excellent! la proprio nous laissait les clefs et pour le prix d´une chambre nous avions notre propre hotel/restaurant. Apres 2 jours Chloé (francaise) and Stephanie (Belge) sont arrivées, nous ne nous sommes plus quités et avons continué le voyage ensemble jusqu´a Puerto Lopez (Equateur). Au fur et a mesure que nous remontons le continent, le climat se réchauffe et j´ai l´impression que les gens sont aussi plus chaleureux … A Huanchaco nous avons sympatisé avec les locaux tout de suite et certains gamins venaient nous voir tous les jours sur la plage. Nous avons commencé a dévorer des tonnes de fruits mers … et avons quand meme réussi a faire un peu dans le culturel avec les ruines de Chan Chan (pour connaitre les ruines d´une autre culture que celle des incas, c´était bien different de Matchu Pitchu).
Un couple d´américains et un argentin en plus dans le groupe et tout continua pour le mieux jusqu´a ce … que nous nous fassions voler a Mancora … Pour ma part j y ai perdu le camescope, le lecteur MP3, une veste en cuir … Comme si ca suffisait pas la police … des vrais connards! J ai mis une eternité a pouvoir avoir une declaration (ils voulaient que je les paie)… J espere que je pourrais récuperer quelquechose par l´insurance … Donc j´ai trouvé plutot difficile d apprecier l´endroit (Mancora)… ah et puis l hotel était infesté de crickets!!! Bon bref il y a des endroits comme ca il faut pas insister. Bon allé j´ai quand meme rencontré des voyageurs sympas et la bouffe était plutot bonne …
D ailleurs en parlant de bouffe, au Perou comme en Equateur une des specialité est le Ceviche – du poisson frais cuisine dans du jus de citron et des onions (un peu comme le steak tartare). Vraiment délicieux!
Puis nous avons passé la frontiere equatorienne et bien que nous ne soyons pas encore dans les caraibes, ca n´avait plus rien a voir avec le Perou. Nous avons sejourne tout un groupe en campant sur la plage … petite siestes dans les hammacs, peche en bateau, etc... une varie petite communaute de hippies! Les locaux étaient encore plus sympas ici et ceux qui vivaient pres de la plage nous inviterent a manger, nous ramenerent du poisson fraichement peche et nous preterent leur cuisine plus d une fois … Mais bon apres ce petit sejour tranquilou on avait quand meme tous envie de se bouger et de faire la fiesta … donc direct a Montanita, la mecque du surf en Equateur … voir les photos dans la camionette et a la soiree électronique …
Pour l´instant je suis toujours la mais prevois de partir demain vers l´Amazonie equatorienne (ici il appelle la region El Oriente), puis continuer vers Quito (la capital).
