Last weekend I ventured to Foshan, about 2 hours from my school. I was not impressed with this city but did like the look of Nanhai.
Where I actually stayed was about 30 minutes from Foshan and the reason for going was to meet up with a former student from Nanchang University. He took me to his work place and showed me around. then we had to walk for ages just to find a bus or a taxi, whichever came first! We take so many things for granted in our home countries......
I only managed 1/2 a day in Foshan, so guess I didn't get to see all I wished and hoped to explore......there will be other times.
My friends and I visited a temple, which is famous for Bruce Lee and while there I also learnt that Jet Li was a member of this temple and also studied Kung Fu years ago.
This temple consists of a museum, which tells the story of all the famous Kung Fu warriors, if I can call them that. In another area one can see a Dragon dance and where you can donate some money and receive some wishes from the performing Dragon.
In another area, which I will call the 'Stone Garden', one can see a prayer tree. This is one of the local customs of China and these trees can be seen in quite a few places.
All in all, this Temple was quite impressive with the stone carvings and I wondered about how things were for them back in the days of yore.......There really are some great artists in China who can carve, draw etc on anything.
My next trip will be to Dongguan and I hope to be staying with one of my students family, so.......stay tune for further updates on my adventure here........in......China....
