Últimos Refúgios (Last Refuges) My impressions about the natural and cultural "last refuges". by.: Leonardo Merçon

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Small Sloth. This is my favorite animal in the Rain Forest. It always moves very gentle and has a very human expression. But don't think they are unprotected. With its claws of the size of a human finger, a fast hit can do lots of damage.
Some ex-hunters on the park, where I photographed this beautiful animal, said that the Sloths has some impressive attitudes when it is hunted. The ex-hunters said that just before the final hit, the slots start to scream, and this screams sound like a baby crying! One of the guys that told me this story said, that he was about to kill a sloth with a baby. The sloth looked into his face and took the baby on his arm and offered it to the hunter. The message was clear to the hunter.

The message was clear to the hunter. "Kill me, but take care of my baby!" He told me that after that experience he never killed a Sloth again.
