Aspen & Denver

No bear last night after all. Oh well.

This morning, Crayton and I went above Aspen to the Maroon Bells. This short ride took us up into a very picturesque valley below two 14ers. I have included some photos. We took a mile or so hike up the valley lake to the roaring stream above. Very pretty.

We left Aspen and the hospitality of Sheila and Joe around 11:30. We coasted on fumes down the mountain from Independence Pass since I didn’t want to buy any $5 gas in Aspen. We made into Leadville and filled up on $4.07, the cheapest in town. We stopped for lunch at the Golden Burro, a local historic diner. Cray persuaded me to buy him a souvenir t-shirt with the Golden Burro on the front, and what the locals affectionately call the Brass Ass Saloon on the back. Don’t tell his mother.

We then headed east to Denver to pick up Crockett from the airport. He made it in shortly before 6:00 and we made it to Coors Field for the Mets/Rockies game before the national anthem. Colorado scored early on a two run homer but the Mets responded with a 5 run second and never looked back. Toward the end of the game, Crayton did get a hit though – see the pic!

We’ve eased on end to Limon before we start the long haul home. I will try and give a final story when we return. Thanks for all the positive comments.

Lee

PS -- I'm having trouble loading pics.  Will get the new ones asap.
