Well, Crayton and I have been talking about this trip for several years. We almost pulled it off in 2006. It didn't work out but we are ready now. Or getting ready ....
I've been packing and making lists, things I like to do.
Wait, let me back up. For ten years, Crockett and I have been going to different major league baseball stadiums around the country. In addition to the places we have gone as a family and with scouting, the baseball stadiums have been our special event together. As Crayton got a little older, we discussed what we should do as our event. We agreed on National Parks. Teri and I had been to some (Glacier; Great Smoky Mountains) but we didn't really know about the park system. Since Crayton and I chose National Parks, we have learned a lot. Currently, there are 54 National Parks in the US. There are over 300 other sites operated by the NPS. These include historic battlefields, national monuments, national memorials, seashores, trails, rivers, birth places, etc. So far, we have been to Black Canyon, Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Hot Springs, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Shenandoah. (See the pics)
I am going to pick Crayton up at Kanakuk in Branson and travel to South Dakota. We will visit Badlands, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Mount Rushmore and Minuteman. Visit nps.gov to see more about these sites. We will then travel to North Dakota to visit Theodore Roosevelt NP. Next stop will be Devil's Tower (remember Close Encounters?) in Wyoming before travelling to Rocky Mountain NP north of Denver.
I will try to post along the way. Alleen's postings have spurred me on. Please feel free to sign up and post comments or questions. We will do our best to answer.
