My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos
My name is Laura Wingrove, and I love travel and travel photography- one of my heroes is Basil Pao, the photographer who accompanies Michael Palin on his travels. I love travel photography, particularly photographs that capture both the landscape on a grander scale, and the smaller human elements, and I try to capture both of these sides of a culture in my photos. Last year, I won the UWS Student Digital Media Prize for my HSC photography major work, and have always loved taking photos. I love that photography can capture a moment in time in such an immediate way, that no other medium can. It is also so important to document places and moments that fade, especially in such uncertain times, as it preserves memories of cultures, places and people longer than can remain simply in memories or textbooks. I love that a photograph can say so much about a culture, and I would love the opportunity to learn more about both photography, and the varied people and places in the world. It is always so fascinating to learn more about the technical side of photography, and to be taught by a National Geographic photographer would be a dream come true. Thank you in advance for considering my application.
