My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Nepal | Monday, January 7, 2013 | 5 photos

Our world is such a beautiful place and yet is so often portrayed through images that strip away the dignity and hope I believe exists in every situation. I am particularly interested in humanitarian and travel photography that breaks stereotypes of the majority world. Poverty means a very real struggle for so many people but that does not mean that aspirations, dreams, joy and laughter cease to exist within the struggle. I have spent the past three years travelling, studying and experimenting with my photography in every spare moment and day off that I have so I can develop my skills. I am not the finished article yet; and to be honest I hope I never feel like I am. I do however want to be part of a generation of photographers that portray people’s stories in a respectful and honest way. The chance to observe and learn from Jason would help me take another step on the journey towards making images that bring stories to life. The most important thing about photography for me is the ability to connect with people, with a place and with a community. It is a privilege and a joy to be able to tell someone’s story through photography.
