A Life Less Ordinary
I collect recipes, like others collect photographs—to conjure up a memory of the people and places that touch my life.
About ladydinesalot
I am consumed by my wanderlust—in search of new places, new people and the pure joy of getting lost in the trumpeting sound of the waves on an empty beach.
I grew up in Canada and have travelled most of North America, the South Pacific, Australia and lived in New Zealand for over 15 years; meeting people from around the world I’ve learned nothing is more connecting than food. I can quite literally think about food my entire day, and when travelling it’s this discovery of new dishes that helps best understand the people and their home.
I cherish these memories often scribbling down recipes from the people I’ve visited on scraps of paper scrawled out in an effort to once again capture the moment. Food should be balanced, and culturally true exploding with surprise in discovering that which is a little out of the ordinary. I collect these like many take photos and piece together an album; these recipes are the memories I treasure.
I write a weekly column in a Metroland Media publication, called Up in My Grill, based on culinary trends and seasonal food. I also am a freelance writer for their food and wine magazine, Local Tastes, and am forever grateful to those who follow my blog www.ladydinesalot.com.
Food not only has a way of connecting us but also is a foundation for change.
Food security is important to me. There is enough food in the world the problem is distribution and excess in other countries. It’s a complex issue. Individuals should have access to food in an inclusive and sustainable way. Adequate food is a right.
I also am the owner of a marketing consultancy enabling me to continue to travel and explore the world in search of the perfect bite.
