Greetings From Positano -
So, Tuesday evening all four of us went to dinner. We knew we were going way up above Positano, that the restaurant would send someone down and pick us up, that the restaurant grew their own vegetables and that the view was great. Off we went.
The drive up was in a 20-seat mini-bus and we got a couple of photos looking back down at Positano. We had a great table next to the rail and had plenty to look at before it got dark, and the restaurant was very nice. We didn’t know the program, other than they said it was “home style” and the restaurant was family run. Marlene ordered a glass of wine, while the rest of us ordered Coca-Cola and we asked for a bottle of water (it’s almost impossible to get tap water). Out came a full bottle of wine, a huge bottle of Coca-Cola and a big bottle of water. Then, out came six plates of vegetables. Very good. We kind of thought that was it. The plates all were taken and out came new plates and utensils. There was about a 15-minute rest period. Out came four plates of homemade pasta. The same routine again and out came a huge platter of mixed meats – pork chops, lamb chops. beef, rabbit, chicken and sausage. The same routine again and out came a plate of deserts. Somewhere along the way a woman appeared and began singing Italian songs. Eventually, some rustic instruments were distributed and it became a sing along. Our table was big with the tambourines, though Marlene and I got the microphone thrown in front of us and we got to sing. I got to sing “oh, oh” in the song Volare. Fortunately, the curvy, cliff side drive back was in the dark.
Wednesday (yesterday) was our drive along the coast. It was terrific and the photos are coming. Today (Thursday) turned out to be warm and beautiful, giving the folks a chance to complain about the weatherman, as the prediction was that there was an 80% chance of rain today and the nicer day would be Friday. Thus, today we’ve been trying to enjoy the abundance of sunshine.
Marlene and I are off to dinner (back up the hill on the old, little town bus). We’ve purchased tickets to take the boat to the Isle of Capri tomorrow, as it was supposed to be a nice day. Now, we find out after temperatures in the 70s today, that the high tomorrow is 59 degrees and the rain chance is significant. Oh well.
