SEEDS - DAY 8 - TUESDAY 9/8

ICELAND | Tuesday, 15 September 2009 | Views [411]

We're already counting the days.  This morning's work was very cold and rainy.  We spent 5 hours in the Korabbi field harvesting and filling sacks up.  We also did beets.  Just finished lunch now and waiting to hear the whistle blow to go back to work.  It's volunteer work so technically I don't have to but I'm essentially trading my hand at work for free lodging and food.  I like the people in my group and the hosts, I just wish it were summer temperatures for the kind of work we're doing.  WAHH I complain a lot don't I.  Put up for shut up, appreciate what you have and worked for to get you here, Josh.
We worked until 5 today harvesting more beets, sometimes the sun came out and more often the rain showered us.  The weather changes an awful lot in Iceland, it can be very frustrating.  I remember when I told people in Boston a few days prior to Iceland that it was going to be pissing rain for days when I would first arrive, it's because Icelandic weather is so variable and changes so frequently that it's kind of by default that the weather is always set to rain.  Now I understand why.
After dinner we all had a group meeting about ecology, information about recycling, pollution and so on.  I really didn't realize that this was part of the camp but it's useful information that everyone should know, especially for those who are truly concerned with environmental issues.
I think it's just the shitty weather that's bringing me down.  It's still raining here but I'm in the yoga room listening to my yoga music. I escaped the house and the company of the others unannounced and I was able to finally get a practice in.  It's great to be alone.  Today's work was exhausting.  I hate complaining but it's an experience ! I may have never gotten the chance to visit Iceland if I didn't go now.
