Table Tennis, ping-pong, call it what you will, but in many places in the world, it is a highly competitive sport. Take for example the Table Tennis French Open being held this weekend in Toulouse, France. The best players in the world are competing right around the corner from our house!
As I have two "pongists" in my family, instead of packing for Bolivia (J-4 and counting) I found myself in the Palais des Sports watching table tennis. This was the first time SB saw a Table Tennis competition where his father wasn't playing.
At one point, JN wanted to see a match on the other side of the hall, so I stayed with SB in our seats near some tables where several asian players were playing. One of the games in paticular was close and everyone in our section was cheering them on. SB, joined in as well. Only problem was that he shouted what he usually shouts at games... when his Father is playing.
"Allez Papa!" (translation: Go Daddy!)
Everyone turned to look at the champion's son. Who wasn't Asian. Then they looked at me.
JN didn't understand why everyone was giving him such strange looks when he got back...
