A City of Beauty and a City of War: Despite being a beautiful city with an array of natural and man-made masterpieces, Barcelona also harbours a darker past. A Republican stronghold in the Spanish Civil War, the Mediterranean metropolis suffered heavily during the reign of Franco and these scars were not quickly forgotten. This photo juxtaposes the two sides of Barcelona, with a blooming flower outshining the insidious barbed wire.

Diversity: An inherently multicultural city, Barcelona combines the Catalan way of life with Spanish influences and an ever increasing influx of foreign tourists. With everyone else rugging up in dull tones to ward off the encroaching winter, this lady pulled out an eye-catching scarf and pants combination to add some colour to her walk through the city.

Never Stopping: With so much to see and do, tourists and locals alike rarely stop for a second look while walking through the Old Town’s narrow lanes. Upon seeing this well placed window, I proceeded to adjust the shutter speed and capture numerous pictures of blurred individuals in a hurry. Nonetheless, the pick of the bunch was this simple, mirrored shot that displays the relaxed yet purposeful stroll of these locals.
