Shannon had arranged a warmshowers.org host in Silverthorne – my first with a host using this Internet-based community of touring bicyclists. Since we were exhausted from the climbs out of Radium yesterday, and since we got a late start (10:30am), I acquiesced and we rode the highway to Silverthorne instead of taking the GDR on gravel roads, which had many more ups and downs and a 9,000’ pass to boot. Distance was 38 miles – first half with no shoulder and lots of heavy truck traffic – harrowing!
We stayed at John and JC Sabal’s house – sleeping on carpets on the garage floor, Domino’s pizza for dinner, and lots of talk about bicycle touring, winemaking, and the Camino de Santiago in Spain, which John and JC are planning to do next month. I’m all over this warmshowers.org thing – best thing since sliced bread!
