Rolled out of the tent at 8:30am and breakfasted with Phil and Shannon. The wind was already picking up and we decided to have a layover day so I could visit the bike shop for repairs, rest all around, shop for groceries, etc. We cycled to the bike shop to get my front axle and trailer axle serviced, but the mechanic (Adam) wasn’t due in until 1pm. Then we went to the post office and picked up the cycling gloves that Eric sent to me – thank God for gel gloves (the Cannondale ones I had fell apart).
A big morning of sleeping late and doing not much made us hungry, so we hit the Pizza Hut for the $6.49 pizza & salad buffet, boy they didn’t make any money on us! We lost count on how many trips Phil made to the lunch bar… Then Phil and Shannon went to see the latest Harry Potter movie and I went back to the bike shop to get Adam working on my bike, first the front axle which fortunately needed only two bearings (5 cents each!) and some fresh grease, then the trailer axel which had sealed bearings which Adam couldn’t service, then adjusting my front derailleur, then putting on some bar end grips, then tuning up my front shifter… Adam was cute so I kept finding things for him to work on.
Next I went grocery shopping for the 3-day trip to Steamboat Springs, then a drive by the Old Wyoming Penitentiary, then a coffee shop for two hours while it rained and I worked on this journal.
