My Scholarship entry - The Spell of Yukon

Canada | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos

I am a natural scientists and photographer, with a strong affection from the Arctic. I studied physical geography in university, and have an appreciation for our natural world and how it works. I am drawn to photography as an art, because it allows me to capture the feelings of the places I travel, and to express beauty. I am drawn to it as a profession, because I see it as a way to reach out to the public and inspire them to love the world around them – both the environment and other cultures. This opportunity of if particular interest to me because it is in Greenland. A few years ago I visited Yukon as a research assistant, and fell in love with the North. Since then I have dedicated myself to working on Arctic issues. It is also of interest to learn about the field of photo-documentary. For the past four months I have set myself to freelance in the field, but am still very new to the logistics and process. It also hope to learn more about the art of digital photography, as my experience is mainly using a film camera.
