"There's a land where the mountains are nameless, / And the rivers all run God knows where; " Yukon poet Robert Service describes the wild and unpopulated mountains in SW Yukon.

The Wrangell-St Elias region, that stretches between southern Yukon and Alaska, contains the largest non-polar icefield in the world. Flying in a small five person plane, we catch a rare glimpse of the vast expanse of cold, rugged terrain.

A cabin sits on the shore of Kluane Lake. Scientists working at the Kluane Lake Research Station during the summer sleep in these basic cabins. Although they protect the researchers from the grizzlies that share the base with them in the late summer, the cracks in the plywood don't keep out the plentiful mosquitos.
