Me and Porcini
I live in Johannesburg, South Africa, where I was born, after leaving for a few years. I didn't think I'd still be here at 29 - this city has always been important to me but it felt like a cultural wasteland. Now it's ripe with interesting and interested people, great ideas, projects and lifestyle. I can do anything I want here - someone will always want to be involved, contribute, hang around, pay, and do whatever they can to be a part of a new culture we are building together. Myself included.
I also spend most of my time cooking or sourcing odd and interesting ingredients in the city and writing about them - I've had enough of uninspiring retailers and grocery stores. We don't have a visible food culture here, but once you do a little digging there are some incredible things to find and people to meet. I've also recently been commissioned to congribute to a book on movements and development projects in the city, I'll be writing a few pages on my food explorations that take me to different parts of the city.
