Weekend of Partying

SOUTH KOREA | Monday, 14 January 2008 | Views [1110] | Comments [4]

Hi so its 9 am Monday morning and I think I have managed to sync my body up with the day time out here after a weekend of partying and jus about sleeping for 24 hrs. Nightmare- the things I have to do!  Anyway about the weekend.

Well on Friday I taught 5 lessons which was an experience. I think I went a bit fast for the children as I wasn’t quite sure what level they were learning at, some of the little ones are incredibly smart and speak such good English. I got told that the kids found my lesson really fun but they didn’t understand a lot of it… so that’s good. Oh well Im sure I’ll gage what is suitable for them soon; it was only my first day after all. The teachers aren’t that clear on what they want you to do but I was told by some new English friends that you just have to go really slow an pad the 25 min lesson with ‘what day is it today’, ‘what is the date?’ ‘What is the weather like’ ‘how are you?’ etc because there is soo little to teach for the lower level children. The lesson basically consists of pointing to 15 different pictures and making sure they have got the right pronunciation and they understand what they are saying.

After the day had finished I went back to one of the Korean teachers flat to crash for a few days because they hadn’t got a flat sorted out yet. My cases seem to have exploded all over the room, Iv tried to minimize mess but it seems to creep out again whenever I want something from my case. I think our new flat may be sorted early this week, maybe even tonight eeeeee! Sooooooo looking forward to that so I can get my stuff sorted in to some kind of order.

After I had dropped my cases around 9pm I had to get ready to go out with Mike the American teacher. He took me to a local bar at around 11 which was well known for attracting westerners. I met loads of really nice people from lots of different places, south Africa, America, Australia, Ireland and a couple of people from Isle of Wight and Nottingham. We got to the bar by bus which took about 20-30 mins. So after being in this bar and meeting lots of new people and a couple of bottles of Soju later the time flew by and it was 7 am. Oh Soju is like vodka but a bit weaker, it costs around 1000won a bottle which is around 60p. Ironically if you want a lemonade or coke to go with it the soft drink costs around 4000 won which is about 3quid! Strange. Anyways we were getting a bit puckish by that time so stopped off at a local café kind of thing and got sum native chow. Can’t quite remember what it was called but it was kind of minced beef inside dumplings, sum rather spicy oyster soup and sum kind of egg fried rice. Was very nice anyway. So we waited around for the morning bus and got a few dirty looks as it was a Saturday morning and most of the people on the bus were off to work and we were still quite pissed from the night before. So I came back an crashed woke up and watched some Korean soaps on tv which are soo silly. Its all full of top quality drama, someone’s always either dying, having an affair, being arrested or blackmailed, I have no idea what they are saying but its entertaining none the less. Oh they also have quite a few English channels that usually have films and American dramas like law and order and CSI sort of thing. Anyway after mucking about all day I went out again to Suwon to a bar called the Crazy Duck. This bar was well known for attracting the American forces who have a few bases round here. There weren’t many there on that particular night but lots of people I had met the previous night turned up a bit later and again we stayed out til about 5 and went back to sum1s flat and had a little party. The crazy duck has a games corner that has party hats, wigs, funny glasses and games like hungry hippos, cards, puzzles etc which would never happen in England because they’d get stolen lol. Anyway more updates on the way speak soon xxxx

Oh dear Julia...

It's just typical of you, haha! Travel all the way to South Korea to watch their equivalent of Corrie and play Hungry Hippos in a bar.

Sounds like you're having a ball out there though. Be good when you've got your flat sorted and can finally unpack, guessing your room is currently in a similar state to the hotel in Manc, that was a fantastic weekend!

I'm currently off with the latest bug which seems to be doing the rounds, stupidly bored and not heard from anyone, so not really got any gossip to amuse you with. Although it is Gemma Evans b'day this Friday, she is having a party on Saturday, which I fear will be messy, so will keep you posted on that!

Take care hun, will no doubt chat on MSN soon!

Hi Julia - Well I get the impression you're certainly not missin Harboro! I'm glad you're having fun and good job those old tonsils are out of the way so won't be bothering you. Harborough is the exact same - its pouring down and miserable - but never mind - Mark's on his way back with a takeaway so that's something to look forward to!
We shall look forward to reading about your adventures.
Lots of love from The Winks.
