I've been out on the road a little over three months now, I can hardly believe it. About half that time was spent in Byron Bay. I've moved on now but I'll always remember the place with fondness. Who knows? I might even return one day...
My last couple of weeks past without much incident. I spent time swimming, reading, surfing, wandering, and other such taxing activities. I think I learnt more background information on Australia from Bill Bryson's excellent Down Under than I've read in any guide book or have acquired through osmosis simply by being here. I went to a few yoga classes (which were blimmin' hard work by the way), fixed mosquito nets with a spoon, and consolidated my new skill of walking short to medium distances wearing flip flops.
I think I was ready to move on when I did but I was still sad to leave Byron. On my last housekeeping shift I was presented with an Arts Factory t-shirt as a thank you for all my hard work, which was a lovely gesture and meant I could put off Laundary Day for a day or two. Then, on my last night, a whole bunch of us went to the beach in the evening, lit a fire and talked the night away.
Still, the very next day I jumped on the bus with my bag on my back and headed out along the road to Brisbane...
