You have to scrape before you can paint

You have to scrape before you can paint

It’s the end of another week of hard, non-stop work and we have taken the afternoon off.  First a stop for lunch and a well- deserved drink at Jasmyn, then to the lodge to shower and do laundry. To keep the amount of paint splattered clothing to a minimum I have been wearing the same outfit everyday.  I rinse it out at night, hang it on the line and wear it the next day.  Both shirt and shorts show a detailed history of the project.

Andre has been reluctant in getting us supplies so we have taken to making our own trips to the hardware store.  Although we buy a higher quality of paint brush and scrapers and rollers than he, the cost is still very reasonable.  In fact, we spent less than $10 – something unheard of in a Home Depot trip.

Equipped with our new tools Connie is progressing window by meticulous window and I have managed to paint all the interior expect for the baths which Andre is plumbing and the disgusting kitchen which I have put off as long as possible.

Yesterday we had 16 college kids from University of Pretoria as helpers.  Their CVs weren’t inspiring but they worked like animals, competing a lot of the heavy landscaping and painting both outside gable ends.  Parks brought 20 of his kids today and they finished up most of the yard work.  This not only makes the progress look more impressive, it saves Connie and me form heavy lifting – a good thing since she had a painful muscle tear and my left shoulder is killing me.  Thank heaven for “Vitamin I”.
